Have you suffered from a traumatic brain injury?

On Behalf of Knoll Leibel LLP | Dec 10, 2021 | Personal Injury |

After taking a hit to the head, you will want to seek medical attention immediately. Even if you feel like nothing is wrong at first, there is a chance that you have suffered from brain injury and simply cannot tell right away.

If you suffer from traumatic brain injury, on the other hand, you will likely be able to tell immediately.

Cognitive impact

Mayo Clinic discusses the impact of traumatic brain injury on the body and mind, as well as the signs that can point to one. First, victims will often struggle with cognitive abilities. This means you may feel confused, disoriented or disconnected from your surroundings. Some victims describe feeling like they are having an out-of-body experience, while others cannot even recall the details surrounding the incident with any sort of clarity.

Problems with memory

Speaking of, memory issues are also common. For example, victims often cannot recall the moments before, during or directly after the impact that led to a head injury. Additionally, many will suffer from short-term memory loss. These memory issues can last anywhere from hours to years, causing significant stress in a victim’s life.

Physical signs will also manifest in some cases. For example, a victim may lose clear cerebrospinal fluid from the nose or could bleed from the nose or ears. It is also common for victims to experience extreme nausea, which can cause excessive vomiting. Dizziness makes it hard for victims to stand or walk, too.

Even if the signs seem mild, it is still crucial to get immediate medical attention. This is the best way to prevent permanent damage.
