How long do back injuries take to heal?

On Behalf of | Mar 18, 2022 | Personal Injury |

Back injuries are one of the most common types of injuries that workers like you may suffer from on the job. In fact, back pain serves as the most common reason for workers to take time off.

A part of this has to do with the amount of time it takes for a back injury to heal. This can differ from case to case, but in many times, it is longer than one might expect.

The timeline of healing injuries

Cleveland Clinic looks into the timeline for a healing back injury. Generally speaking, the worst of a back injury’s swelling will come down within days or weeks for a particularly intense issue. However, the main issue is that most injuries will end up aggravated at some point due to the fact that we use our backs in almost every aspect of daily life.

Problems for workers

This is particularly true of workers, who often do not have enough sick or paid leave to take off of work for the entire period they should focus on healing. In fact, many employers will call their workers back before their doctor notes allow them to return. Workers who are afraid of risking their job will go back before they should, simply to avoid the possibility of getting fired.

Any time you aggravate a back injury, you lengthen the amount of time it will take to fully heal. An injury that may have taken a week of recovery could soon take two or three. In order to combat this harmful cycle, it is important for sufferers to consider their compensation options.
